Obituary of Doreen TRUMBLEY
DOREEN E. TRUMBLEY
(Nee Foster)
December 10, 1923 - June 2, 2009
Peacefully and quietly on Tuesday evening with loved ones close by, Mom passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85.
She will always be remembered by her sons Ken (Judy) and Garry (Connie); 6 grandchildren, 2 granddaughters by marriage and 10 great grandchildren.
Doreen was born and raised in Fort William, ON, joined the army in 1942 and was sent to Shiloh in 1943. There she met John (Jack) Mayer and married him on June 10, 1944. They had 3 sons Ken, Donald (deceased), Garry. John passed away in November 1966. In 1969 she met Fred Trumbley and they were married in 1972. Fred passed away in 1985.
Mom was a lifelong homemaker who was an avid reader and gardener. She could also be found knitting or baking to relax and in the last few years being with the great grand kids brought her great joy and comfort.
Mom was very involved with the St. Vital Legion Branch from the 1960's until it closed in 2006. She received a number of awards and citations including Meritorious Service Medal, Palm Leaf and Centennial Medal for service to the nation and was a life member of the Legion.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care, 8th floor for the caring and support, and Home Care staff and Dennise for their support.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Inurnment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery with immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doreen's memory to the Kidney Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.
