Obituary of MARY JOHANNA WIRTH

Peacefully with her family by her side, Mary Johanna Wirth (nee Goetz) passed away at the age of 94 at St. Boniface Hospital.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest; parents, Mathilda and Joe Goetz; brothers, Andy and Norbert; sister, Agnes; sons-in-law, James Claydon and Aaron McKinnon.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her children, Alan (Darlene), James, Cheryl (Roland), Vicki (Steve) and Tara; 11 grand children and 2 great grandchildren.

She also leaves her brother Jerry (Millie); sisters, Theresa and Eileen and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mary was born and raised in Langenburg, Saskatchewan; the oldest of seven children she enjoyed her time on the farm helping her dad and going to church on Sundays. She became a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital and graduated in 1951. While working in 1952, she met a patient, Ernest Wirth and they married on May 1, 1954. He came into her life at St. Boniface Hospital and that is where he left when he passed away in 1991.

Mary enjoyed travelling, camping and family gatherings along with baking and genealogy. She created many family history books that her family will cherish forever along with the memories of countless family camping trips throughout her kids’ childhoods. She was a pillar of the community at her church, Blessed Sacrament where she volunteered often and was a member of the choir for many years. Between her meals on wheels deliveries, she also enjoyed the occasional gambling trips, whether it be Club Regent or Las Vegas, she had luck on her side and never seemed to leave empty handed. If there was a sports game on, you could expect her to be watching it. Whether it was the Blue Jays, Jets or Blue Bombers she loved cheering on her team! In her later years she enjoyed her new role as Great-grandmother to Theo and Max. They would visit her weekly at Park Manor and seeing them grow and learn brought her so much joy. Nana was a huge part of so many people’s lives, she will be missed dearly

The family especially thanks the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Park Manor and East Park Lodge. As well as her friends on the 6^th floor at East Park Lodge for always looking out for her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street. All who knew and loved her are welcome.
