Obituary of MARTHA SOPHIA TYCHOLIZ
MARTHA SOPHIA TYCHOLIZ
Sadly, on December 25, 2023, Martha Sophia Tycholiz (nee Korotash) passed away.
Martha lived abundantly during her 97 years. Her death is just one instant in a full and lovely life. We are so sad to let her go but we know she has been with us for as long as she was meant to be. Not a minute longer, not a moment less.
She was born and raised in Stuartburn MB. She was 1 of 8 children born to Michael and Anna Korotash. She was a hard-working farm girl until she attended Normal School and became a teacher. While teaching in Pine River MB, Martha met Tony at a dance. In 1948 he proposed to her on her birthday and they were married 2 years later. They eventually settled in Winnipeg in 1952.
After raising 7 children to school age, Martha took an evening job working at GWL; a job she loved until she retired at age 60. After retirement she immediately began volunteering. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Holy Family Home and remained a member until her death.
She also found time for some fun things in life. She joined 2 bowling leagues, traveled more, tended her garden until she was 94, was still singing in the choir, and of course loved her Dr. Casino. She was devoted to God and maintained a strong connection to her church. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with family. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As our mother, baba, great baba, sister, aunt and friend, it’s incredibly difficult to sum up the impact and influence Martha had on those around her. She was smart, generous and fiercely independent. She had so many friends and made a difference in the lives of many.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her children, Beverley (Bob), Linda, Connie (Bruce), Robert (Debbie), Charlene (Cory), Marcie, daughter in law Rhonda; her 13 grandchildren, Joel (Maria), Danielle (Derek), Ashleigh (Cher), Curtis (Danae), Brendon (Kayla), Graham (Jacqui), Michael (Marise), Cassandra (Theo), Elizabeth, Nolan, Morgan (Graham), Cole (Justine) and Erik (Kari); and her 10 great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Jackson, Owen, Eleanor, Elliot, Ashton, Everett, Amelia, Kayden and Logan.
She will be missed by her sisters, Elsie and Jeanne, brother-in-law Russell, as well as the rest of her extended family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Tony, son Tom, grandson Garett, parents Michael and Anna Korotash, brothers Nestor and Roman and sisters Ann, Rose and Olga.
A celebration of her life will be held on January 2, 2024 at 10:00 am, Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice as Martha generously supported numerous local charities.
