Obituary of William Adair
William (Bill) Joseph Adair
We are saddened to announce that on Saturday, September 20, 2008, Bill Adair passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital at the age of 95 years and is now reunited with his wife Mary.
He is survived by his daughters Patricia (Paul) Korn, Leann (Ron) Smith, grandchildren Dean Korn (Jackie), Robin Smith (Andrea), and Veronica McKinnon (Brian), great-grandchildren Virginia, Jessica, and Monique. He also leaves to mourn his close friends, Henry and Joey Desorcy.
He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Mary, who died March 3, 2008, and a daughter at birth.
Dad was born December 10, 1912 in Toronto ON to Hamilton and Leah (Dezalliers). He was the eldest of a family of seven. Dad spent his early years in Toronto, and then in the Penetanguishene/Midland area. Dad left home and school at the age of 13 to work on a neighbouring farm to help support his mother and siblings. Over the years he sailed on the Great Lakes freighters, worked in lumber camps, and then when he met and married Mum, he began working for different steel companies. These included Roofers' Supply, later known as Rosco, the Steel Company of Canada and Westeel, which brought him full circle, when Westeel and Rosco joined together. His work led Dad and his family to Regina, Montreal and Winnipeg. Besides his family and his work Dad enjoyed reading, helping neighbours and family hang pictures, build garages and fences and fix things. "Going for drives" was another favourite activity, especially in the countryside where Westeel/Rosco granaries would be proudly pointed out. Dad was a faithful Catholic and although poor health kept him from attending Mass the last few years, he was appreciative of all the prayers said for him by the parishioners of his former parish (es).
The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for their care and compassion and Dad's neighbours', Jim, Nancy and Alan for watching out for Dad when he was at home.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, with innichement taking place in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum at Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill's name to The Salvation Army (The Salvation Army, National Processing Centre P.O. Box 8200 Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4W5 or to a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, till we meet again.
