Obituary of Ivy Barr
IVY CLAIRE BARR
nee BENNETT
Peacefully on July 28, 2010, in her 83rd year, Mother and Grandmother slipped away with her family by her side.
Predeceased by her parents, Solveig C. Bjarnarson and Maurice W. Bennett along with both her siblings, Arnold and Catherine, as well as her husband Peter J. Barr. Survived by son Brand (Judy) and four grandchildren, Brandy, Haley, Bennett and Garret, all of whom she loved very much.
She attended many events over the years supporting her grandchildren in all their interests. She was an ever presence at horse shows, music recitals and football and soccer games. Mom was also on site when we were building our home with hammer and nail in hand helping out where ever she could.
Throughout her life Mom maintained a fierce independence and a love of traveling. Over the years Mom had visited much of the world. Two of her highlighted trips were to England and Iceland as she was very proud of her English and Icelandic heritage. She worked as a Communications Operator for the C.P. Rail for many years and was one of the last working Morse Code Operators.
According to Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held in Arborg, Manitoba at a later date.
Thank you to the staff at Concordia Place who cared for Mom in her later years.
If family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
