Emilia BARTOSHUK

Obituary of Emilia BARTOSHUK

EMILIA BARTOSHUK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother on September 3, 2008 at Seven Oaks Hospital with her daughter and granddaughter at her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Dmytro in 1996 after more that 60 years of marriage. Emilia leaves to mourn her daughter Veronica (Sam) Simcoff; grandchildren Rachel (Avraham) Gislason, Micah (Courtney), Marla; two great grandchildren Akiva and Liora; relatives in Poland and Ukraine and many dear friends. Emilia was born October 12, 1912 in Studyn, Poland. On October 26, 1936 she married Dmytro and lived in Volyn, Ukraine until WWII disrupted their lives. They survived the war and forced labour after which they lived in displaced persons camps for four years. In 1950 Emilia, Dmytro and their infant daughter were sponsored by the Evashchenko family with whom they lived in Poplar Bluff, Saskatchewan. They came to Winnipeg soon after where they remained for the rest of their lives. Emilia and Dmytro loved Canada and considered it a blessing to have lived here. Emilia worked many years at Dominion Tanners, until 1977. She worked hard building a new life in Canada, raising her daughter and maintaining their home. She was active in the Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor of St. Mary the Protectress and involved with the Society of Volyn. Special thanks to all the caregivers that attended Emilia in her home as well as the compassionate staff of Seven Oaks Hospital Geriatric Units. Prayers will be said on Sunday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Avenue. Funeral Service will be held at Monday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cathedral with The Very Rev. Archpriest Dr. Jaroslaw S. Buciora officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Honourary Pallbearers will be Serge Radchuk, Wolodymyr Senchuk, Damazy Wagner, Mykola Sawka, Sonia Dzuba. Active Pallbearers will be Brian Fries, Marshall Fries, Rob Sveinson, Marko Senchuk, John Maksymowicz and Bogdan Krasko. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or to the St. Mary Protectress, 820 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg.
