Obituary of Wilfred Bischoff

Wilfred Gustav Bischoff (Bishoff) It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wilf, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on April 21, 2010 at 7 Oaks Hospital following a sudden stroke on April 14th. Wilf is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elfi, his children, Bev (Rick), Corinne (Todd), Bonnie (Gord) and Candace (Frank), his stepson Uwe, his grandchildren Andrew, Jaime, Phillip, Christine, Dustin and Carmen, and Zoey, his only great-grandchild born 5 weeks ago. Thankfully, he had the chance to hold this precious gift in his arms before he left us. Also surviving Wilf are his brothers, Allan and Clifford, and their families. Wilf was predeceased by his first wife, Nellie (1989), his parents (Gustav and Augusta), his sister (Wilma) and his brother and best friend (Harold). Wilf owned and operated a successful concrete and construction business (Nel-Wil Ltd.), which he started in 1962. Many of his endeavours (buildings and bridges) are visible throughout the City. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, piloting, fly-in fishing and solving crossword puzzles. He retired in 1996 and took up gardening and baking (something that surprised his family). He often described baking as "just like mixing concrete - with the right ingredients and the correct mixture, it's easy!" With his kind and warm manner, Wilf displayed a heartfelt interest in the lives of others. Many considered him as their second father because of his wisdom and willingness to listen without judging. He loved life, and rarely turned down an invitation to a social event, liking nothing better than to just shoot the breeze with whoever was available. He made friends easily and kept them for life. Wilf had a soft spot for animals and never walked by a cat or dog without stopping to make friends. He was known for taking in strays and nursing injured animals back to health. The biggest source of pride for Wilf was his family. He kept in touch with all of them, and showed a genuine interest in their lives. Wilf enriched the lives of those he knew and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all. Service will be on Monday April 26, 2010 (viewing 10:30 a.m., service 11:00 a.m.) at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main St. Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Canadian Diabetes Foundation or Heart & Stroke Foundation Manitoba.
