Obituary of Edita Gomes (TEIXEIRA)
EDITA MARIA GOMES (TEIXEIRA)
October 30, 1909 - July 9, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 in the comfort of her home.
Edite was born in Portugal and made Winnipeg her new home in 1968. She was a strong-willed woman whose exuberant storytelling was captivating and her earnest faith inspiring. Her devotion to her family will be lovingly remembered by her children Maria, Amadeu (Iraci), Margarida, and daughter-in- law, Fernanda; and her grandchildren Elizabeth, Bill (Tania), Paulo (Andrea), Sylvia (Greg), David (Amanda), and Nicole, all of Canada. Her loss will also be mourned by 4 sons in Europe; 12 grandchildren in Europe; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other European family members.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jos Joaquim Teixeira; her 4 children, including her son, Antonio Teixeira of Winnipeg; and her great-grandson.
We'd like to thank the health care workers, nurses, and doctors that assisted in her complex care; a special thanks to Dr. Fuzeta, and the Fort Richmond Health Care Workers.
Vigil prayers will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at 8:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception, 181 Austin St. N. At the same location, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 15th at 10:00 a.m., with Very Rev. Jos Eduardo Medeiros, V. F. as Celebrant, followed by the interment at Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1-888-473-4636.
