Obituary of Mary HALPIN

MARY ROBINSON HALPIN Early on October 11, 2008, Mary Robinson Halpin (nee Arnott) passed away at Maples Personal Care Home. Mary was born in Roblin on December 27, 1915 to Isabelle (Belle) and John Arnott. Mary was predeceased by her husband Redmond, sisters Janet (infant) and Agnes, and brothers Bruce and Ronald. She is survived by her children Ron (Fran�oise), Janet, Helen and Brian; grandchildren Sarah, Alexei and Claire; sisters Jean McBride and Pat Robert; niece Flora Ross and other numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was raised on a farm near Roblin. She started nursing training at Montreal General Hospital, but found her true calling as an educator and in 1934 attended Normal School in Winnipeg. In 1985, Mom was the guest of honour at a 50th school reunion in Roblin for Riding Park School in Inglis, MB as she had been the first teacher at the first school in 1935. In the late 1940's Mom moved to Pine Falls to take a teaching position, where she met her husband Red, and remained in Pine Falls for almost 50 years. Mom was a respected teacher; she served on community groups and was the United Church organist for many years. In 1995, she moved to Winnipeg, but she continued to hold strong affection for Pine Falls. She recalled people and events even in times of severe memory loss. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. A private family interment to be held at Pine Falls Cemetery at a later date.
