Obituary of Katie HOLYK
KATIE HOLYK
(nee Sawka)
Katie Holyk, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on October 3, 2009 at the age of 99.
Katie was born on the farm in Gardenton, Manitoba on June 6, 1910. She moved to Winnipeg when she was a teenager, since both her parents were deceased and all her siblings wanted to leave the farm. Even after going their separate ways, Katie had a strong bond with her brothers and sister that lasted throughout their lives.
Katie later met and married John and became a full-time devoted wife and loving mother of their three children. Katie was very family-and home-oriented; her family meant the world to her.
Mom lived a long, full life and she had the strength, courage and faith, along with her many qualities, to make it a good life. She was generous and caring and was dearly loved by all her family; she will be greatly missed. May you rest in peace. Mom.
Katie's beloved husband John predeceased her on April 16, 1976, as did her cherished son Bill on December 11, 1998. Katie was predeceased by her parents, Nykola and Sofia Sawka; loved brothers Alexander from Transcona, George, Mike and Matt from Winnipeg, Bill from Edmonton; sister Mary and dear sister-in-law Pearl Sawka. Katie was also predeceased by son-in-law Al, sisters-in-law Tillie, Mary, Pearl and Nellie; brothers-in-law Romeo, Colin, John, Steve and Peter; nieces Iris and Gail, and nephews Matt, Leonard and Bob.
Katie is survived by her daughters Rosemarie Gill and Jean (Andy) Pommiers; grandchildren Robert, Richard (Roxanne), Corinne (Angelo) and Nola; great- grandchildren Mark, Nicole and Dustin; and great-great-grandchildren Madison and Emily Rose. She is also survived by sister-in-law Nancy; brother-in-law Charlie; nieces Rosemarie, Shirley, Ann, Harriet, Donna-Lynne and Leslie; and nephews Tom, Michael and Eddie.
Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Thanks to the staff on the 3rd floor of the Poseidon Personal Care Home for their kind and gentle care.
