Obituary of Andrew Kerr
Andrew Hart Kerr
Peacefully after a short illness, Andy passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
He was predeceased by his father Andrew, mother Jane, and brother Stephen.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Nancy; his sisters Anne (Ian) Bryden and Susan (Tony) McCullagh and their children, all of Scotland; his parents-in-law, Kathryn and Peter Pshyshlak; and family and friends in Canada and Scotland. He is also missed by his beloved cats, Robbie and Calum.
Andy was born on July 14, 1956 in Glasgow, Scotland. He worked for the UK Atomic Energy Authority in Thurso before immigrating to Canada in 1982, to take a job as a research technologist with AECL. He worked for the next 25 years at the Whiteshell Laboratories, before embarking on an all too brief retirement.
Andy enjoyed many hobbies throughout his lifetime, including scuba diving, winemaking, and woodworking. He and Nancy shared many wonderful vacations to Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, and most especially to Scotland. He gave back to his adopted community through his work as a volunteer ambulance attendant in Pinawa, and through the nearly 100 blood donations he made.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kildonan Medical Centre, especially Drs. Fatoye and Nepomuceno, and to the doctors and nurses who cared for Andy during his brief stay at Seven Oaks Hospital. A special thank you is extended to Andy's childhood friend, Mike Keeney, whose presence brightened his last few days.
In accordance with Andy's wishes, cremation has taken place and friends are invited to celebrate his life in their own way. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Andy can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's choice.
"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."
