Ella LAMPERT

Obituary of Ella LAMPERT

ELLA EVELYN LAMPERT Ella Evelyn (nee Chambers) Lampert, age 91 of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg on Monday, August 24, 2009. Ma was born on March 31, 1918 to Seb and Bertha Chambers on their farm just outside of Rutland, Saskatchewan. She carried with her all her life many memories of the Great Depression and the struggles to survive that she and her mother faced. These struggles, along with her family in Winnipeg, are what, to a large extent defined her as a person. Ma went to school in Regina, Saskatchewan, graduating with her diploma in Bookkeeping in 1936. She married Philipp Lampert on her 20th birthday, March 31, 1938 in Regina and immediately moved to Winnipeg. After her four boys were all in school, she restarted her career as a bookkeeper in Winnipeg, saying that she did not enjoy the challenges of being at home as much as the challenge of career. She held many jobs as a bookkeeper over the years because, once she got the books in order, that job was no longer a challenge so she sought out her next employer. Her favorite place was always at the lake (Lake Brereton in the Whiteshell) but she also traveled widely with her sons to various places; Europe, Australia, and all over Canada and the United States. Her first big trip was to California in 1949 to visit her dad. She greatly enjoyed her travels and the memories of them. She will be greatly missed by her family: sons Alan (wife Pam) of Florida, Laurence of Indianapolis, Indiana, Murray of Winnipeg and Greg (wife Gloria) of Winnipeg; her two grandchildren, Paul (wife Tracy) and their three children Emma, Ethan, and Ella, and Elizabeth (husband Brian) Tucker and their two children, Natalie and Allison. As was her wish, there will be no service. She has been cremated and her remains will be spread along some of her favorite walks at "the lake". Have a sip of wine in her memory tonight at supper. She always enjoyed her sip of wine each evening. She was always very interested in wildlife and preserving our environment. For many years she contributed to the preservation of wildlife. It was her desire that, in lieu of flowers, you contribute to your favorite fund. Ma liked to say that she had just worn out. Her mother, her father and her husband all died at age 84; she was amazed that she lived seven years beyond that. She was certainly at peace when she died. Her family hoped that she is remembered as the friendly, gentle person that she was. The whole family wished to thank the warm and caring staff at Middlechurch Home for the wonderful care that Ma received over the past fourteen months. They helped us all get through a very difficult period in our lives. Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
