Armand LAPOINTE

Obituary of Armand LAPOINTE

Armand A LaPointe July 18/1925 - August 22/2009 The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of Armand A LaPointe on August 22/2009 at the Middlechurch Home. The family was by his side in his final hours. Armand was predeceased by his wife Marlene in 1993. Dad is survived by his three children and their families. Son Ken (Debra), children Ryan, Laura, Brooke, son Brian, children Kyle, Phoenix and daughter Heather Dykstra (Bodie) children Corey, Cameron, and Lyndsay. Dad was born in Lasalle, Manitoba and grew up on the family farm in the area. Upon turning eighteen he joined the Canadian Air Force and served during the Second World War in Goose Bay, Labrador. Upon his return to civilian life Dad had a number of jobs in construction with his brothers including a stint of owning his own trucking business. Dad met Mom and were married 04 Jul 1952. One of Dad's goals in life had been to build his own house and raise his family there, which he accomplished in 1963 when he built his house on Hoddinott Road in East St Paul where the family grew up. During these years Dad worked at Winnipeg Hydro and the Cambridge/Curtis hotels to make ends meet. Working at two jobs meant long hours but he never complained. As time passed and the family grew up, another life goal was to own his own business and Dad and Mom purchased and ran LaPointe's Corner for a number of years until their retirement from small business. Dad did not stay still long though and soon was working for the Corps of Commissionaires and Dominion Lumber in security positions until finally he chose to retire for good. Dad then discovered wanderlust and ended up living in Kelowna and finally Medicine Hat for several years in retirement. Declining health had Dad return to Winnipeg at the urging of his family and this occurred in November of 2005 and he resided at Middlechurch Home until his passing. The family would like to express their thanks to the Middlechurch staff for their extra compassion and care in Dads final days. In accordance with Dad's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
