Obituary of Arthur LIGHTFOOT
ARTHUR LESLIE LIGHTFOOT
May 12, 1918 - October 16, 2008
Peacefully, surrounded by family, our Dad (Papa) passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008. Arthur, a lifetime resident of Winnipeg was predeceased by his brother John, his daughter Donna and beloved wife Verna. He was also predeceased by his special friend and companion, Helen Wainwright. He is survived by his daughter Eileen (Keith Carter) and their four children Robert, Jennifer, John and Laurey, son Les (Phyllis) Lightfoot and their children Scott (Tamra) and Angie, great grandchildren Michael, Cierra and Alyssa and son in law Ryan Eade and Donna's children Carmen and Jillian. Arthur attended Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate and joined the RCAF in 1940 going overseas with the No. 6 Bomber Group to England. By the end of the war Art had married Verna and spent his early career in the Lumber and Hardware business before starting his Security and Investigation business which he retired from in 1985. The Masonic Lodge was an important part of Art's life. He was a life member of the Northern Light Prince Rupert's Lodge, joined the Connaught Chapter in 1954, the Perceptory in 1955 and the Shrine in 1954. Sports were an important part of Arthur's life. In his younger days he excelled at Track and was a nominee for the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1941 based upon his Track and Field accomplishments. Throughout his life Art was active in Curling, Bowling, Trap Shooting and Swimming and was a lifetime member of the Winnipeg Winter Club where he served as a Governor. A long time hunter and fisherman, Art spent considerable time in his retirement distributing fishing gear to special needs children across Western Canada. Art was honored for these efforts by being the recipient of the Air Canada Heart of Gold Award in 1988. Other similar citations and trophies, too numerous to mention, covered his wall. All of Art's friends and family will remember him as an active and outgoing individual who willingly gave of his time for others and enjoyed their company at the club, his cottage at Locke Bay or in his own home at his well attended parties. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Caver, nursing and support staff on the 3rd and 5th floors at the Victoria Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion over the last five weeks. A celebration of Art's life will take place Tuesday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road. Art will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
