Obituary of Karoly LOHR
KAROLY (CHARLIE) LOHR
September 17, 1930 - March 18, 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Left to mourn their loss is his wife of 55 years, Mary, his children Charlie (Tracey), Susie (Dave) and his beloved grandchildren Braden, Kaitlyn and Emily. Also mourning this loss is his surviving brother Frank, numerous family members in Hungary and the many friends he had here in Winnipeg.
Born in Gyor, Hungary, Dad immigrated to Canada in 1956 to start a new life with his wife Mary. Upon settling here, he took on a few jobs before finding his calling as a pipe fitter and welder (Local 254). He also had his own business: Charlie Lohr and Son Contracting, which enabled his to meet many people who would become his lifelong friends. He touched the heart of everyone he knew. Dad continued to work while his wife brought 2 wonderful children into his world. He was now a very proud and happy family man. One to never retire; he kept himself busy by helping others. No job was too big or small, he was always by your side lending a helping hand or giving his advice.
Dad always found the time to enjoy himself. He was often seen riding around the neighborhood on his bike, stopping by to chat with everyone. Fishing was a favourite pastime as was cruising the lake with his family on his boat. Family was his priority. Never one to miss one of Braden's motocross races, he enjoyed himself at the track. He found the time for family get togethers, ice cream with the girls and just being with his wife, children and grandchildren. Being outside with nature and keeping busy kept Dad his healthiest and happiest.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the quick actions of our neighbours, the crew from the Fire and Paramedic Dept, also the Police Dept, and staff at the Victoria Hospital and our friends who have helped us at this difficult time.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Cremation will follow at later a date.
Being an active member of the Hungarian House we ask you to come join us to celebrate his life after the services at 441 Selkirk Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in his memory.
As a "Husband" you were the best that you could be. As a "Dad" you were always there for us, teaching important values, and offering your Love and Support. As a "Grandpa" you always shared your wisdom, your caring and your humour. As a "Friend" you were always there. Thanks for doing it all so well. Always Loved, Sadly Missed. Never Forgotten.
