Obituary of Mary FERENS)
MARY MELNYK (nee FERENS)
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our precious Mom and Nana on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Seven Oaks Hospital with her dear family at her side.
Mom will be lovingly remembered with cherished memories by her daughters, Chrissie (Marino) Vitelli and Patricia (Wayne) Blevins; grandchildren, Derek (Jen), Dale (Angie), Tracey (Ruben), Tricia (Marcelo), Claudette (Trevor) and 11 great-grandchildren who brought so much joy to her life.
She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years Walter, mother Katherine, father Michael, sisters Ann Kostna and Nettie Landick, brothers Harry, Steve, Billy, Freddie and Andrew, sisters-in-law Elsie, Nan and Nellie and granddaughter Marina Vitelli-Devlin.
Mary was born February 4, 1923 in Winnipeg and resided in the north end all her life. She had a special place in her heart for her family home growing up on Mountain Avenue. Mary was parishioner of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and belonged to the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. Due to her failing health, Mom became a parishioner of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church as it was closer to her home.
Mom, at 42 years, started working at Eaton's in the Production Kitchen as Manager. Her skills and experience brought this to a 10 year career. We were all so very proud of her.
Mom was a wonderful cook and we all enjoyed the family dinners especially Christmas and Easter. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting for all her children and grandchildren. Mom looked forward to her nightly TV show Criminal Minds. She remained loving, caring and supportive throughout her courageous battle with pain due to her several aneurisms in the last four years.
A special thanks to Dr. P. Bhanot and the nurses and staff of 5th Floor, Units 4, 2 and 3 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion.
Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. at Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome any donations in Mary's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
"Mom. We all love you and will miss you dearly."
