Obituary of Edward Miedzybrocki (BROCKI)
EDWARD MIEDZYBROCKI
(BROCKI)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Edward Miedzybrocki (Brocki) of Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 12, 2010.
He is survived by his son Edward (Kim) of Milton ON, cherished grandchildren Matthew and Christina; sister Amelia, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jan and Kateryna, his wife Rose, and sister Louise (George).
Ed was born in Winnipeg in 1934 and grew up in East Kildonan. He attended Lord Selkirk School and then began his post-secondary education at St. Paul's College. He went on to earn his Law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1957, and was called to the bar the following year. He began work in private practice then joined Canadian National Railways as corporate counsel. Upon retiring as Assistant Regional Counsel in 1992, he continued in private practice up until his death. In 2009, he was honoured by the Law Society of Manitoba for 50 years of practicing law.
He was involved in many community organizations over the years, most prominently, the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg and The Polish Businessmen's Club. In these organizations, he held various positions, including president, and was active in many of their fundraising and community projects. He was famous for buying cases of Kiwanis Christmas cakes and distributing them amongst his family and friends. Also, he was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg.
Ed had a lifelong passion for sports. As a young man he played hockey and lacrosse and was a long time Winnipeg Jets season ticket holder. Later in life he enjoyed curling and golf and was an active member of the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. At the time of his death he was helping to establish the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Over the last several years, Ed developed a real passion for travel. He had great fun travelling to France, Fiji and Australia with close personal friends. In his latest travel adventure, he visited family in Poland and Ukraine with his nephews.
Ed loved life and his favourite times were spent with family and friends. Always generous, he was typically the first to contribute in any way to any event. He was extremely loyal and proud of his heritage and passionate about the importance of tradition. Above all, Ed valued and loved his family and friends. He will always be remembered and dearly missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lerner and the nursing staff in the ICU at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion. A special thank you goes out to the Parishioners of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church who initially assisted Ed.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church , 250 Jefferson Ave. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
