Obituary of Marion Oster

MARION OSTER Marion Oster (nee McDougall) passed away peacefully with her children at her side at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB on May 20, 2010 after a long battle with diabetes and kidney disease. Marion was born December 14, 1946 in Northwestern Ontario. Marion is survived by her four children, Darren McDougall, Teresa Oster, Tim Oster and girlfriend Delaney, and Terry (Ted) Oster; her brother Comber McDougall and wife Margaret; her sister Mary Jane Kakepetum and husband Halum; her step mom, Annie McDougall and stepbrothers and stepsisters. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dakota, Delaney, Kordell, Darren Jr, Kari, Betsy, Kestral, and Rachel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jonas McDougall and Agnes (Rae) McDougall, her brother Jack, her sister Georgina and grandson Timothy McDougall. Marion was from Garden Hill First Nations. As a young child, Marion was disenfranchised from her culture, family and people due to the Canadian Residential School system. Later in life Marion reconnected with her traditional Aboriginal roots and culture. In her mid 20s, Marion relocated to Fort Frances where she wed Terry Oster and cherished her time spent raising her family in Northwest Ontario. She also treasured her time spent with her adoptive family along with her friendship with her father-in-law George Oster. Marion will also be remembered for her love for her work as a social worker and her love of cooking. Family and friends were everything to Marion; she embraced and cherished every moment as a gift. Marion's personality, humour and warmth had touched so many people throughout the years and the proof of this is in the positive memories her name evokes in the people who had the fortune to experience a conversation with her. Service to celebrate Marion's life was held on Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Cropo Funeral Chapel in Winnipeg, MB.
