Obituary of Patrick ROCKWELL

PATRICK ARTHUR ROCKWELL With loved ones at his side, Patrick Rockwell passed away at Concordia Hospital on December 12,2010. Born in the Fort Rouge area on December 26, 1934 - he attended Earl Grey School, Kelvin High, and Tech Voc. As a youngster he attended St. Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church and enjoyed his duties as an altar boy. He loved to read and he loved to chase butterflies. He started working for The Canadian National Railroad in 1954, doing his apprenticeship as a Machinist in Vancouver. He returned to Winnipeg making Transcona his home with his family. He retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. Patrick also served as a Union President, working very hard and diligently that the workers would retire with a good pension and full benefits. He was a very active member of the New Democratic Party, believing that their goals as a party best looked after the poor and the needy. His own goal in life was to help others and he always had a smile and time for anyone who needed him. With his good friend Laurie Webb they started a Breakfast Club for the Retirees, which is still active today. In 1992 Patrick suffered a stroke, and worked very hard to overcome his difficulties making a full recovery. Patrick devoted his time to his family, they always came first and he was always there for them and always helped them. He is survived by his three sons Steuart (Toronto), Henry and Christopher of Winnipeg; 2 daughters Teri Ann Jenkins (Marty), Patricia Rockwell (Lyle Lucier); 5 grandchildren Carolyn and Christopher Jenkins, James, Jonathan, Jessica Lucier; 2 great grandchildren Alexia and Aleshia Lucier and his ex wife Alma Rockwell. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Dorothy, brother Steuart, two sisters Millicent Donelly and Audrey Rockwell. His good friend June Denchuk who was part of his life for the last 13 years will very sadly miss him. Together they line danced, sang in the choir, square danced, and round danced. Many days they were seen walking together down Henderson Highway. No service or memorial by request.
