Obituary of Godfrey SAXTON
GODFREY ST. JOHN (SINJ) SAXTON
Born October 13, 1919 in London England, Ascended October 25, 2008 in Winnipeg Canada Peacefully, on October 25, 2008 Godfrey St. John Saxton, devoted follower and pioneer in the Baha'i Faith passed away at the Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg. Godfrey was known to all his friends as Sinj, an endearing nickname he kept throughout his life. Sinj was born in England and was a non-combatant soldier in WWII. Sinj and his wife Margaret emigrated to Canada in 1947. Soon after arriving and settling in Winnipeg, Sinj and Margaret became members of the Baha'i Faith. Sinj and Margaret were two of nine members of the first incorporated Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Winnipeg established in 1954. Sinj was an active member in the Baha'i community for over 55 years. Sinj was a theologian and a philosopher. His hobbies were history, archeology, listening to music from yesteryear and was a jovial observer of daily life. Sinj loved recalling the events of his life and the way life was for him in his early days in England. Sinj was a magnificent and captivating storyteller as he could recall, in remarkable detailed snip-its of old stories and songs from everyday life. His passionate optimism and enthusiasm for life was infectious. His stories and the way he told his stories were one of a kind. He was one of a kind. He and his stories will be sorely missed. O Lord, glorify his station, shelter him under the pavilion of Thy supreme mercy, cause him to enter Thy glorious paradise and perpetuate his existence in Thine exalted rose garden, that he may plunge into the sea of light in the world of mysteries. (from the Baha'i Writings) Sinj was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1996 and his daughter Anne Levia in 1972. Sinj is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law: Michael and Joan, Geoffrey and Mandana and Ken and Delores. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Sinj will be held at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at the St. Clement Cemetery in Selkirk (on Main St.) A reception will follow after the interment at the Bahai Center at 521 McMillan Ave.(near Osborne village) In lieu of flowers, donations in Sinj's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
