Obituary of Donald SHAW

DONALD J. SHAW (Ciszewski) Peacefully, after a brief struggle with cancer, and with his family at his side, Don passed away on October 7, 2008 at HSC, just shy of his 80th birthday. Don is survived by his wife of 48 years Joan, sons David (Ronalee) and Grant (Signy), and four grandchildren, Zachary, Caitlyn, Evan and Aiden. Don is also survived by his brothers Gord (Sherrie), Peter (Elsie), sister Maryann (Gary) Maxted, brother-in-law Peter Yaworski, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his father John, his mother Mary, his infant brother Franklin Paul and his sister-in-law Bev Yaworski. Don was born on November 15, 1928 in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. The railway was always in Don's blood. He began work early in life with CP Rail and moved on to CN Rail, spending 33 years with CN in financial services until his retirement in 1986. Don also had a love for politics and began his political career when he was elected to the RM of West St. Paul Council in 1978. His municipal career, which included three years with the Town of Winnipeg Beach, extended over 22 years. Don was an active member of St. Theresa's Parish. He was a faithful choir member and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Don enjoyed a variety of activities; talking politics, planting thousands of trees, golf, curling, watching his beloved Blue Jays or simply throwing a baseball with the kids in the yard. The cottage at Winnipeg Beach was a place to get away from it all. Don and Joan enjoyed many good times with family and friends at "The Beach" over the years. Don had an unwavering love and commitment to his family and friends. Don's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, of whom he spoke about often to anyone willing to listen. A special thank you to all the Staff at HSC on ward GH6 for their care and compassion. A memorial mass will be held in honor of Don on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Theresa's Parish, 3597 Main Street, West. St. Paul, MB. A private family interment will follow.
