ALVINA SUCHOPLAS
August 18, 1928 - February 4, 2011
It is with loving memories and sad hearts we announce the passing of Alvina Suchoplas at St. Boniface Hospital palliative care unit on February 4, 2011 at the age of 82.
She leaves to mourn her 3 sons Adolph (Esther) of Edmonton, Tony (Joyce) of Flin Flon, Alvin (Beth) of Winnipeg, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her memory will be held in the hearts of her sister Stella and brother-in-law Jack Kuchma of Preston, Ontario, along with her special friend Mike Dowhan. She will be sadly missed by her friends Betty P. ,Betty D. ,Yvette as well as many friends from the legion dances.
She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Dora Worobec, her husband Arseny on August 31, 1970 as well as sister Nelly and brother Mike.
Alvina was born in Fort Pelly, Sask. She moved as a young girl to Poplar Bluff, Sask. She married Arseny in 1946 and they farmed in Poplar Bluff until Arseny's passing in 1970. Alvina's travels took her to different places but settled in Winnipeg in 1974. She worked as a cook at the Oakview nursing home. She loved to spend time outdoors in her flower and vegetable garden. She enjoyed mushroom picking, fishing at the cabin. She loved to dance, and her and Mike spent many Saturdays going to the dances at the different Legions around the city. She enjoyed her time with "the girls" having coffee at the mall. some of her most memorable times were spent with her kids and grandkids cooking for the "suppers" in her Ukrainian tradition.
Mom, you taught us how to love unconditionally, to be patient and compassionate. You were strong as an oak tree, bending, but never breaking.
Today our hearts are heavy but the sky tonight will be one star brighter.
Many, many thanks to the wonderful palliative care staff at the St. Boniface Hospital. The caring and compassion you showed for mother in her last days, made her transition so comfortable and peaceful.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 8th evening from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel.
