Obituary of Nicholas SYROTIUK
NICHOLAS (NICK) SYROTIUK
Peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Harmony House Retirement Home in Guelph, Ontario, Nick Syrotiuk passed away at the age of 85. Nick will be sadly missed by his nieces Pat (late Don) Canney, Lorraine (Ron) Dolynchuk and Sharon (Kim) Malenchak as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Petro and Anna (Horodny) Syrotiuk, brother Michael and sisters Mary Kostack and Kay Malenchak.
Nick was born on January 25, 1923 on the family farm in Cook's Creek, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Canadian Highland Light Infantry in 1943, was wounded in Normandy in 1944, and completed his military service in England in 1946. On his return to Canada, Nick resided in Windsor, Ontario before immigrating to Detroit, Michigan in 1950, where he worked as a bartender until his retirement in 1984.
Nick was devoted to his family and lived for his annual extended summer trips to Winnipeg to be with family and friends.
Many thanks for the compassionate care given to Nick by the staff of Harmony House Retirement Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment to follow in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Cook's Creek, MB.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to the Salvation Army.
