Obituary of Betty Townsend

Betty Jean Townsend (nee Ingram) It is with great sadness and sense of loss, we announce the passing of Betty on January 6th, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Ed and Kenny. Remaining to cherish her memory is beloved husband Ken, son Wayne and daughter-in-law Carolyn, daughter Kathy and son-in-law Brian; grandchildren, Jamie (Lisa), Lauren (Adam), Mark, Brayden and Linnaea, great-grandson, Oliver; sisters Agnes and Margaret (Ron); brothers Doug (Jean), Allan (Sonja), Bruce (Kay), George (Irene); sister-in-law Gloria, as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Winnipeg and resided in Ridgeville, Manitoba during her early years. The family moved to Winnipeg, where she met Ken, the love of her life, while ice-skating at Morse Place Community Club. They married in 1951 and made their home in Kenora, Ontario. First child, Wayne was born in 1954. A transfer took them to London, Ontario in 1960, where daughter Katherine was born. In 1962 the family moved to Leamington, Ontario, then in 1967 they returned to Winnipeg. During Betty's working career, she was employed by Kraft Foods, Eatons, and Metro Drugs in sales and management. Betty was truly a great partner, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and trusted friend. Knowing Betty has been a great privilege. She lived her life content and with determination and integrity. She valued family life above all. She was a modest, loving and compassionate person. She was quiet and reserved, and who chose never to dwell on her personal accomplishments or difficulties. Betty enjoyed family get togethers, knitting, sewing, baking, cards, and dancing. In retirement, she volunteered with the Cancer Society and the Manitoba Lung Association. We are forever grateful and blessed to have had Betty in our lives. Betty and Ken recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Our family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Darcy Johnson for his professional care over a number of years. Thank you to Concordia Hospital, Riverview Health Center and Deer Lodge Center, doctors and caregivers, as well as home-care, which all contributed to Betty's comfort. Our heartfelt thanks also to family, friends and neighbors, especially Dianne and Harry Chunick, for your many acts of kindness to Betty. This is very much appreciated. Though you make this journey alone Betty, we wish you God's blessing, and send you with affection and respect. There will never be another you Betty. You have left all of us with a rich legacy of love and kindness. We love you and will miss you always and forever. A celebration of Betty's life will take place on Monday, January 10th, 2:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In accordance with Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place with private family interment. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation in Betty's name may be made to Concordia Hospital Foundation, Manitoba Lung Association, or Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
