Obituary of Joseph TURMAN
JOSEPH RUDOLPH ALEXANDER TURMAN
March 9, 1937 - October 10, 2008
Surrounded by his family and nieces, and after a very brief battle with cancer, Rudy passed away Friday, October 10th at Grace Hospital.
Rudy will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alice, daughter Tannis (Roger) Mack, son Mark, and grandchildren Kelsey and Tyler, his mother Helen, also brothers Dennis (Carol) and Tony (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Alex, in-laws Fred and Lavina Cole, sister Alice Pagee, brother-in-law Wayne Cole.
Rudy was raised on the farm at St. Martin, Manitoba. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at University of Winnipeg and his Bachelor of Education degree at University of Manitoba. He was a devoted and caring teacher, beginning his career at Karpaty School in 1956, Scandia School, Spearhill in 1958, and completed his career at Hugh John Macdonald School, Winnipeg from 1962 until retirement in 2001. He touched the lives of countless students, many who still kept in touch.
His second passion was wildlife conservation and he volunteered tirelessly for Manitoba big Game Trophy association as well as having memberships in numerous other wildlife associations.
Rudy was a member of the Red River Card club, enjoying the collecting, trading and sorting of sports cards.
He found contentment and relaxation at our summer retreat in Moosehorn - gardening, encouraging his fruit trees, and visiting with friends.
Rudy treasured his family and close friends. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pat Harris and staff on 5th floor of Grace Hospital for their care and support in his final days.
At Rudy's request, a private family celebration of his life was held on Wednesday, October 15 at Cropo Funeral Chapel.
Active pallbearers were: Larry Neault, Bob Pauls, Jerry Haydak, Orest Fedak, Frank Favoni and Tony Dyck.
Donations, in Rudy's memory, may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Manitoba Wildlife Federation, or Manitoba Big Game Trophy Association, P.O. Box 25211, 1650 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2V 4C8.
