Obituary of Robert Wasnie
ROBERT KENNETH WASNIE
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Kenneth Wasnie on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the age of 76 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louie and Mary Wasnie; the mother of his children Christina and his soul mate Gen Dare.
Bob will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his son Robbie and grandson Caidyn of Winnipeg; daughter Donna (Lon) and granddaughter Amanda of Alberta and daughters Brenda, Barb and grandson Joshua. Bob was born on February 21, 1934 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. He attended school in Sioux and began his career with the CN railway there also. He loved the outdoors and he had a real passion for curling. It was while in Sioux that he met and married Chris. They soon after moved to Transcona and started a family. He continued his career at the railroad until his retirement. His co-workers will tell you that Bob always had a story or joke that would brighten up their day. More than a few have said that it was fun to work with him, "a good guy". He made many lifelong friends while working at Symington yards for the CNR.
Dad and Gen traveled during their time together and enjoyed many rounds of golf, both at home and during their travels. Bob loved to golf and enjoyed any moments he could spend outside.
He really was lucky in that he had two hometowns, Transcona and Sioux Lookout, as that was where his heart was. He's left lasting memories with many cousins and friends from Sioux. Dad always looked forward to his next trip down to Jackie and Arlene's camp. He would return with blueberries, pickerel and many stories of his time spent there as well. Dad was always proud of the fact that he had caught some of the fish himself, as he loved to get out in the boat and fish.
Grandpa Bob had a close bond to his grandson Caidyn. Taking him out to eat, getting up early to watch him play football or hockey. To dad watching him play in a hockey game was like watching the Stanley Cup finals. He was the grandpa that we all loved to love and be around.
Dad met and stayed friends with many in his daily travels. He always had a smile or laugh that kept many of us going throughout our days. We would like those who knew him to not mourn his passing but celebrate the memories they have of him. Bob would much rather we share a story or smile than shed a tear; it truly was the kind of person he was to us.
The family would like to thank the WFD and Paramedic Service as well as the doctors and nurses in the Emergency and ICU at Concordia and MICU at HSC: all for their valiant efforts and care in trying to extend a life that has touched many. You truly are all angels.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster St. with Rev. Fr. Jan Spyrka as celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery on Osborne St.
