Obituary of ANTONY (TOM) THOMAS KARLICKI

~ANTONY (TOM) THOMAS KARLICKI

Antony (Tom) Thomas Karlicki, age 85, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at Kelowna Hospital April 23, 2017.

Tom was born in Winnipeg April 7, 1932 and graduated from Gordon Bell High School where he was a lettered athlete. He received a football scholarship to a US college that he was unable to use, but continued to lead an active life that included bowling, golfing, waterskiing, camping, building homes and cottages, and helping people move heavy stuff! He was a tireless worker and had many careers. In his younger days he worked at Winnipeg Cold Storage, Monarch Lumber and was a cabdriver for Duffys. He worked for many departments at the City of Winnipeg and was manager of the computer department when he retired after 33 years of service. He was a founding partner of Chateau Lanes and was involved in running and managing it for 47 years. He founded Trophy House and ran a pro shop that catered to both bowlers and golfers. He was a member of Elmhurst Golf and Country club and was actively involved in adult and youth 5 and 10 pin bowling. Holidays were often spent camping in the mountains or hunting and fishing with family. It was no surprise that when he retired in 1997 he moved to Kelowna and the mountains he loved. In his retirement he enjoyed travelling, bowling, golfing and gardening with his wife. Tom cherished his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed talking to people and could be counted on to provide tidbits of information or a laugh.

Tom was predeceased by his parents Nick and Ann (Wacolchik), and is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Myrtle (Reschke); sister Lucille Lewis; daughter Fern (Walter), son Murray (Kim); grandchildren Ryan, Duncan (Ashley), Kyra, and great-granddaughter Cecily.

We would like to thank the staff at Kelowna General Hospital and Everden Rust for their amazing, compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Home, 1442 Main St. in Winnipeg.
