Obituary of HELENA TAVARES

HELENA GONCALO TAVARES It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helena, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother at Tuxedo Villa at the age of 83 after a brief battle with cancer on March 13, 2020. Helena was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and moved to Canada in 1972. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio Tavares, parents Antonio and Mariana Goncalo, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by daughter Maria (Manuel) Pereira, sons Antonio (Gail) Tavares, Leonardo (Gina) Tavares, grandchildren Joshua (Lisa), Melanie Pereira, Daniella, and Brianna Tavares, and great grandchildren Emily and Theo Pereira. The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa, Unit 1. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helena’s name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
