Obituary of MARIA KLOS

MARIA KLOS (nee Czebotarenku) December 23, 1925 – May 13, 2020 With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing, on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020 of our truly beautiful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother “Oma”. Maria was predeceased by Nick, her loving husband of 72 years, her parents, brother Michael and sister Irma. Left to mourn and cherish her memories is her daughter Bernice (Brian); grand daughter Carolyne (Tyler), great grand children Brehdyn and Brooke; grandson Grant (Allie), great grand children Maeve and Amelia; close friends Barb, Bob, Kaeley and Michael (Stephie) Gould. Maria was born in Romania. Her youth was spent “on the run” as her family sought refuge across Europe during WWII. As the war tore many apart, it would bring Maria and Nick together, in the Austrian village of Bad Ischl. An engagement promise, for them to re unite in Canada in 1948, would be honoured by Nick and they were married in 1949. As a new life of peace and freedom began, Maria, as a very proud Canadian, committed herself to the sponsorship of many family members and friends. Mom was well educated and a lifelong learner. She spoke six languages fluently which would serve her well in the work force. Once her family was older, Mom worked at Eastern Sales, The Bay and for over twenty years at HSC as a secretary under Dr. Hayakawa in Anaesthesiology until her retirement. Mom had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua, where she belonged to the Catholic Women’s League. Mom loved to sing, play guitar and dance. She was an avid gardener and cook. Most of all, Mom believed that her daughter, grand children and great grandchildren should be allowed the chance at a quality education, travel and to pursue their extra curricular activities. She was their greatest fan attending figure skating competitions, band concerts and dog shows. Those were her greatest moments; ones filled with pride. Even while in a wheelchair due to a stroke in 2003, Mom continued to attend family functions and live in her home until 2018. Her new residence would become Fred Douglas Lodge on Burrows Ave. A special thanks to all the friends who gave Mom the support she needed during this difficult time, especially Barb and Kaeley , her guardian angels. Thank you to all the caring support staff at FDL, especially nurses Bobbi, Cheryl, Beata, April, Benedita, Kim, Karem, Karen Kidd and Debbie Corner on the Willow Unit. In these unusual circumstances FDL allowed us to be at Mom’s side all day for two weeks. To all of her friends and acquaintances, know that she remembered and spoke of you often! Cremation and Urn placement has taken place at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum. Thank you to Fr. Dominic Yuen of St. Anthony of Padua for officiating. Celebration of life will be held when circumstances allow. The family cordially invites you to share your memories of Mom at www.cropo.com on the tribute wall. MOM AND DAD ARE NOW TOGETHER FOREVER !
