Obituary of IRIS MARGUERITE STAMMERS
IRIS MARGUERITE STAMMERS
(NEE HAY)
Peacefully after a short illness, on Monday, October 11, 2021, Iris passed away at the age of 89 years.
Iris was predeceased by her mother and father, Barbara and James Hay, husband Keith, son Ken, sisters Elsie and Barbara, and brothers Bill and Les.
She is survived by daughters Cheryl (Dave), Susan, daughter-in-law Maureen; grandchildren Kathy, Chris (Kaela), Andrew (Beth), Samantha (Josh); great grandchildren Reegan, Addie, and Nolan. Also, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Iris grew up in Transcona on Yale Avenue and was a lifelong resident. She attended Central School where she met a group of long time friends who established a babysitting club. She enjoyed curling, bowling, golfing, knitting, baking and travelling.
Her love for Ottermere, Ontario was evident as it was her home away from home until two years ago. Ottermere was her peace of heaven where she spent hours fishing, gardening, puttering, and picking the perfect blueberries for the ultimate blueberry pie.
In 1954, she met the love of her life, Keith and together they created an abundant life filled with three children. Their home was the site of many Christmas and New Year's dinners often with more than thirty people attending.
In her remaining years, she resided at Concordia Village where she met many wonderful new friends. She attended exercise classes and concerts and could often be seen walking the halls to see how she could make someone else's day better.
We will miss Iris' big cheerful smile, her off the cuff remarks, her willingness to help even if it put her needs last and finally her attitude of never wanting to be a bother to anyone, even up until her last breath.
Due to Public Health Guidelines, a private family gathering will be held. Donations are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Alzheimer's Society.
