Obituary of WALTER JOHN HUBERT DEVODDER
Our family experienced the ending of an era, father, grandfather, great grandfather Walter Devodder passed away peacefully 6 days short of his 100th birthday at River East Personal Care Home.
The last child born to Charles & Leotine Devodder on the 17th of December, 1921.
He lived on Dugald Rd (aka Belgium Town or the Dump) for 39 years, then for the next 59 years in Transcona. He then spent 2½ years at River East Personal Care Home. In his early teenage years he worked for Monty Hall's father’s abattoir and the stockyards. He worked 47 years at Modern Dairies. He enjoyed coaching hockey and became involved with the Minor Hockey League at the East End Arena in Transcona. He refinished furniture and spent many hours at the Casino for enjoyment. Curling, Belgium Bowling, boxing, dancing and partying were also a big part of his life.
He is survived by his daughters Marjorie Koskie, Emily (Dave) Hewitt; grandchildren Tracey (Rod), Linda (Andy), Allison (John), Craig and Korinne; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wives Herta (1982) Betty (1999); his son in-law Wes Koskie, and his siblings and their spouses Joe (Yvonne), Andy (Lou), Gilbert, Margaret (Andy), Irene (Peter).
Words cannot express our gratitude for the amazing staff at River East (especially those in Faith Lane) for the care and compassion they gave to our Father.
