Jocelyne “Joyce” Marie Della Jaremowich

(née Lauzé)

“…Saturday’s Child works hard for a living…”

Saturday, October 30, 1948 - Saturday, February 19, 2022

After a 5-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer, Jocelyne passed away at home, physically & virtually surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her husband of 55 years, The Love of Her Life, Adam “Eddy” Jaremowich; her son David & wife Lori, their sons, Christopher & Matthew, of Bothell WA; her daughter Kim & husband Dave Zeglinski, their sons, Aidan & Jude of Winnipeg MB; her son Alan of Vancouver BC; her siblings, Yvette Pelletier, Raymond (Thérèse), Gilles, Jacques (Susan); her in-laws Marcel Brisebois, Linda Paterson, Ron & Lee Jaremowich; as well as many nieces, nephews, & numerous relatives & friends.

Jocelyne also leaves some special kinships: her honorary daughters, Raquel Hilderman, Cindy Martin, & Christina Wilson; her honorary sister, Lucille Karok; & her honorary granddaughter, Gabby Giovannetti.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph & Marie-Ange Lauzé; parents in-law, Joe & Julia Jaremowich; brother, Reynald Lauzé; sister, Claudette Brisebois; brothers-in-law Raymond Pelletier & Jean-Marie Huot, sisters-in-law Valerie Lauzé & Irene Massier.

Originally from St. Jean Baptiste, MB, she moved to Winnipeg with her family in 1959. In 1966, she married the love of her life at the young age of 17. She graduated with a certificate in dental nursing & worked as a dental nurse for a short time. Once her children came along, she was an at-home Mom, using her sewing talents to earn extra income. She volunteered at her children's elementary school & at the Strathcona Community Centre for many years, which led her to a 28-year career as an Educational Assistant with the Winnipeg School Division. She worked for 16 years at Strathcona School in resource & language development with The Early School Years program, & 12 years at George V School in the Alternative Behaviour Centre program. She retired in December 2008.

Family & friends were most important to her. She loved meeting friends for breakfast or lunch dates; Scrabble or Yahtzee dates--she was an expert Scrabble player, so if she's asked to spell “xi” or “xantham” at the pearly gates, she's in! She had a great sense of humour & loved to tell jokes.

She hosted numerous family dinners & always had room for those last-minute guests in need of a holiday invitation. Food was another love language of hers; even through her illness she was making care packages of homemade soups, favourite desserts, & full meals. Her borscht, potato soup, perogies, perishke, tourtières, crêpes, raspberry bars, butter tarts, ice-cream cakes, & almond crunch candy were the best!

Jocelyne had many hobbies & interests: antique furniture refinishing, berry picking, reading, Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, crocheting, needle point, embroidery, cooking, baking, candy making, gardening (indoors & out), & treasure-hunting in second-hand stores. Her most recent hobby was to make fleece blankets--during the Covid lockdown, she completed over 200 of them for many loved ones.

Above all, she loved to dance with her lifelong partner, Eddy, especially to the 50s & 60s music at the “Forever Young Club” monthly socials. She loved live music & was honored to be gifted with end-of-life house concerts featuring Steve Bell, Cara Luft, & Garth German of “The Biivvers,” where she & Eddy took their last waltz.

She was loving, kind, & generous, always giving & caring for others. Living in the heart of the North End for 44 years, she was approached by many strangers in need of assistance; whether medical, food, water, clothing, bus fare, or a place to charge a cell phone, no one was ignored or turned away.

She had a strong faith in God & believed in the power of prayer. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2017, she always remained upbeat & positive, determined to continue her life with as much normalcy as possible, continuing to do the things she loved to do, & spending time with her loved ones. She was the family’s reporter, keeping everyone abreast of news via weekly email updates. Her openness & honesty about her health journey, is a testament to her strength, her courage, her love, her faith, & her unceasing positivity. She was a special lady who will be missed by many.

Special thanks to her dear husband Eddy, her daughter Kim, & her honorary daughter Raquel, who took great care of her & were always there to meet her needs, so that she could remain at home throughout.

Thanks also to Dr. C. Jaeger, Dr. R. Wong, Dr. A. Nashed, & the team at the In-Home Palliative Care Program.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CNETs Canada, Palliative Manitoba, WSD Children’s Heritage Fund, Harvest Manitoba, or MCC.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jocelyne’s Life will be held on Wednesday, August 10, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.

In future, you may visit with her at the Historic Elmwood Cemetery, where she will be moving into her new 6th floor “condo” with a river view.

She Is Gone

by David Harkins

You can shed tears that she is gone

Or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her

Or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she's gone

Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty, and turn your back.

Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love, and go on.
