 Patricia Banera

It is with saddened hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Patricia Banera on Friday, November 25, 2022 after her short battle with cancer.

Patricia Banera was born Carolyn Patricia Laking on August 22, 1952 to parents Albert Bruce and Norma Irene Laking (nee McCorkell) in Toronto, ON. Pat was the youngest of four siblings, all whom she loved dearly. In July, 1973 she married her life partner, Terrance Michael Banera, in Winnipeg, MB and on May 11, 1991 Pat and Terry welcomed their first and only child, Kristina Michelle Banera into the world. Pat was a devoted mother and enjoyed spending time with her daughter, especially attending all of her figure skating events for over a decade. She became widowed by her husband's untimely passing in 2006.

In her work, Pat was celebrated for being a knowledgeable paralegal, and having a keen talent and interest in corporate accounts. She enjoyed her time working in the legal sector for over 40 years. Pat would regularly nag her family and friends to ensure their legal matters were in order - something they all grew to appreciate.

Pat was a reliable mother, sister, aunt and friend, and was always there for those who needed her. She is survived by her daughter Kristina Michelle Banera, her three siblings Phylis Norma Laking-Hunt, Gerald Bruce Laking, and Sheilah Margaret Laking and many other relatives. She is predeceased by her parents Bruce and Norma. She is now reunited with her husband Terry and her mom and dad.

Her daughter Kristina and family would like to thank the staff of Selkirk General Hospital for their care and compassionate support throughout Patricia’s stay.

The family will be hosting a memorial for Patricia at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. For out-of-town family and friends of Pat’s, the service will be available for viewing on the Cropo Funeral Chapel website which will be available online for three months post-service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to consider donations to Cancer Care Manitoba
