MELANIE HALL

Obituary of MELANIE MAGDALENE MARIA HALL

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister and friend, Melanie Magdalene Maria Hall, on March 24th, 2023. She was 71 years of age.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Joe and Evelyn Hall (née Kelekis).

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Stephanie (Stefan), her sister Barbara Jo, aunt Becky, cousins Barbra, Evelyne (Teli), Georgia, Vicki (Doug), Kaye, Nassia (Ernest), Geoffrey (Mandy), Todd, Chris (Diane), Alex (Lisa), Jon (Alanna), Lillie, Elizabeth, Alexia, Cristiana, Penelope, Presley, Benjamin, Sterling and Matthew, several generations of extended family, many beloved friends and teammates, as well as countless former students and fellow educators.

Melanie was born on April 17th, 1951 in Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts and Education as well as a Masters in Business Education from Marshall University.

Before fully committing to her calling as a teacher, she served for multiple campaigns as the manager for Canada's Senior Women's Basketball team. The journey culminated in one of her proudest achievements: Representing her country at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal, Québec.

For several decades, Melanie put her heart and soul into her classroom as an educator. No matter the subject, grade or school, there was never a doubt that she loved her work and did her all to impart that love of learning to her students.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to all the staff at the Grace Hospital's 2nd and 4th floors, the Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence, HSC and St. Boniface's CancerCare teams and all medical personnel who contributed to Melanie's care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel on 1442 Main St in

Winnipeg on Wednesday, April 5th at 7pm. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any of the following in Melanie’s name: CancerCare Manitoba, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
