Obituary of BETTY MCDONALD
BETTY (ELIZABETH) ANNE MCDONALD
(nee Hanson)
August 15, 1942 to June 5, 2023
Our beloved Betty suddenly and unexpectedly passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Betty was survived by Henry, her husband of 62 years, her three children, Rob (Diane), Cathy (Moses), Glenn (Lisa), her 6 grandchildren, Chris (Brandie), Lisa (Candice), Cody, Katelyn, Brandon, and Faith, her 4 great grandchildren, Lincoln, Maverick, Olivia, Arizona, her 5 siblings Donna (Dave), Joan, Patti (Jim), John (Karen) and Bill, and numerous cousins.
She was predeceased by her son Jamie, her parents Harry and Madge Hanson and her brother Butch (Harry).
Betty was born and raised in Winnipeg. Betty attended David Livingston School, Edmund Partridge Junior High School and West Kildonan Collegiate, she was very proud to have received an award from the school division for perfect attendance from K -12. Henry and Betty started dating as teenagers and married on May 27th, 1961. Exactly one year later on May 27th, 1962 came the birth of their first child Rob, soon followed by Cathy, Glenn and Jamie.
She worked at Dominion/Safeway for 31 years where she enjoyed dealing with her many customers who she continuously ran into long after her retirement.
Betty’s main joy in life has always been her family, starting with her children, followed by her grandchildren, then her great grandchildren (who can do no wrong).
One of Betty’s favourite things to do was travel, (next to playing bingo of course), from camping in the Whiteshell for 20 + years, to taking trips to Arizona, Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico, you name it Betty had her bags packed!
Betty is known for her generosity and for her thoughtful and caring nature, always giving a helping hand and offering that little bit extra to who ever needed it. Her zest and enthusiasm for life never went unnoticed and is an inspiration to all.
Betty was loved by so many, over 100 people attended her 80th birthday celebration last summer.
