Obituary of RYSZARD KAWALEC
RYSZARD KAWALEC
It is with great sadness that we share that our dear Son, Father, Brother, and Uncle, Ryszard Kawalec, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Sunday, January 7th, 2024.
Rysiek’s family meant the world to him. Predeceased by his father, Jakub (2003), he was the devoted son to Teresa Kawalec, father of Bernadeta and grandfather to Maja and Maksymilian, brother and brother-in-law to Alicja (Ireneusz), Andrzej (Agata), and proud uncle of Eric, Partick, Marta, and Philip. His mother always says he was a very good man, and that he truly was – humble, kind, and helpful.
Rysiek was born and raised in Szczecinek, Poland. He was a lover of the outdoors, had a passion for fixing and inventing farm machinery and equipment on his parents’ farm in Marcelin.
After obtaining his primary education in Szczecinek, Rysiek served in the Polish army for two years. He worked as a lathe operator for several years before moving to Winnipeg on April 25th, 1990. In Canada, he was a positive and always-present influence in his family members’ lives. He was “the best fun uncle” to his niece and nephews who as youngsters enjoyed all sorts of adventures with their Uncle Usiu; be it building treehouses, gardening, learning how to drive a car on their uncle’s yard, or babysitting puppies. Usiu was known as the camera man of our family. You didn’t even need to ask; he was already there with the newest technology. Rysiek leaves his family with countless fun memories that will be cherished forever.
Rysiek was a man of many talents and trades with a wealth of knowledge and experience in various fields. For several years, he contributed his skills at Motorcoach, leaving a lasting impact on those who worked with him. He was always willing to share his skills to help his family and friends in times of need. He had a creative eye when it came to visualizing an idea and making it a reality. Family always would consult with him on their design projects, as we all knew he had this creative gift.
Our dear Rysiek was also well known for his caring nature towards his pet dogs and wildlife in general, reflecting his nurturing spirit. He had a gift of engaging in interesting conversations, especially when it came to Polish affairs or music.
Rysiu/Rysiek/Szwejk/Usiu/Richard – he was known by many names depending on where and when you met him. But no matter what name you knew him by, he was the same, kind person to everyone.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of the Medical ICU at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg for their constant compassion, diligence, and outstanding care. May Rysiek find eternal peace, and reunite with those who went before him.
Please join our Family to remember and pray for Ryszard Kawalec on Friday, January 12, 2024, 4:30 p.m. Rosary followed by the Mass at 5:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Bobola Church, 541 Marion St.
Wieczny odpoczynek racz mu dać, Panie.
