GERALD HRECHKA
With great sadness and family by his side we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Hrechka at St Boniface Hospital on January 24, 2024.
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather always put family first, to never leave them wanting.
Remaining to forever cherish his memory is his loving wife of 40 years Debbie, daughter Terri, son Timothy (Samantha), grandchild Violette, brother Michael (friend Marlene), sisters Marlene (Paul), Christina (Kerry), stepsister Debbie (partner Jim), stepbrother Darryl (partner Marlene), sisters-in-law Carol and Rhonda, numerous family members and friends.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents John and stepmother Mary, Mother Lillian and stepfather Joe, brothers Robert and Gordon.
Gerald was born one of six children growing up on a farm in southern Manitoba. When he left school at the young age of 16 in 1973, he began working many jobs ranging from Long Haul Trucker to Forest Protection Ranger to various Construction jobs. Until finally he found a lifelong career with Edie Construction. Gerald started with the Edie Family in 1983 and stayed with them up until his stroke in 2020 when he medically retired. Gerald always felt a part of the Edie family and was loyal and honored to be a part of that. When it came time for him to leave the Edie Construction family, he left as a reputable and hardworking project manager.
During his construction journey, he fell in love and married Debbie in 1983. The family grew into four with the additions of his daughter Terri and his son Timothy. It was with his family that he enjoyed sharing his passions of hunting, fishing, gardening, foraging, and cooking.
Gerald was a jack-of-all-trades and always in a “get things done” attitude. Gerald with his wife Debbie bought property in St. Andrews, MB and started to build their dream home in the spring of 1985. That is where Gerald and his family stayed for 38 years building memories with neighbors who turned into family until 2021.
Gerald shared in the joy of meeting his granddaughter Violette who was born in 2021, who he had many special memories with, up until his passing.
Gerald’s family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care and support during his final days. As well as the amazing support from homecare workers and nurses, especially Jonas for his unwavering commitment to Gerald’s wellbeing.
