Obituary of EMILIA FIGUEIREDO COSTA
EMILIA COSTA
September 15, 1929 – February 28, 2024
Emilia Figueiredo Costa, 94, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away on the morning of February 28, 2024.
Emilia was born on September 15, 1929 to parents Antonio Soares Figueiredo and Maria Rosa Moura on Santa Maria Island in Azores, Portugal.
After humble beginnings, Emilia married Manuel in 1947, and in later years welcomed their daughter Maria. Sadly, Mauel passed in 1959. Bravely, Emilia moved herself to Canada in 1963, where Emilia was later introduced to her second husband Luis Costa, who were then married in 1965. Together Emilia and Luis welcomed two sons, Bradley and Kenny.
Emilia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She had a passion for cooking, sewing, and enjoyed watching Portuguese soap operas, but her purpose was her family. Emilia strongly believed that if you weren’t already eating, then you were hungry, and, the faster you ate (even if you were just in a rush to get somewhere), the hungrier you were -so she’d put more food on your plate. Emilia’s favourite words were, “eat, my house!’’.
Emilia is survived by her children, Maria (Joe), Bradley (Kasia) and Kenny (Toni); her grandchildren, David, Dean (Janet), Brian (Cara), Katelyn (Chris), Brittany, Rio (Arial), Rico, Riza, Oliver and Owen: her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jagger (Alicia), Savannah (Riley), Braxton, Caelum, Ayden and Katrina: and her great-great-grandchildren, Mazen and Jules.
Emilia was predeceased by her husband’s Manuel and Luis; brother Manuel and sister’s, Maria and Benardina.
