Obituary of PALMA ELIZABETH LEDGER

Palma Elizabeth Ledger (Houston) nee Fraser passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024. Palma was born March 22, 1932 in Lachine, QC to Elizabeth and Douglas Fraser. She was predeceased by her son Keith Houston in 1975 and her sister Andrea Fraser of Eugene, OR in 2020.

Palma’s creative pursuits reflected her interests in life. Her garden, which gave her so much joy, was a riot of colour with its many flowers that attracted a variety of birds, bees and butterflies. Palma enjoyed cooking and took great delight in entertaining family and friends. Her lifetime pleasure was reading and she was always content with a good book in her lap. Palma earned her BA as a mature student from the University of Winnipeg with a double major in Art History and English Literature. She worked at the Winnipeg Public Library and was the first Winnipeg Brownie Leader to take her group camping. After retiring, Palma volunteered at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Palma was also a dedicated student of watercolour painting, a longstanding member of the Charleswood Art Group and her creativity with a brush brought joy to many. Watching her grandchildren grow up, mature and pursue their own dreams was a constant source of enjoyment for Palma.

Palma and her husband Blair enjoyed many memorable trips travelling across Canada and throughout the United States in their trailer. They also visited several European countries and the Middle East.

Palma is survived by her husband R. Blair Ledger, her daughter Leslie Houston of Waterloo, ON, her son Ian Houston and wife Karen of Winnipeg, MB, granddaughters Brett Campeau (Dan), Krystin Mutchmor (Randy), Samantha Houston, Sydney Houston of Winnipeg, MB and Madeleine Smith of Cayman Islands as well as great-grandchildren Greyson and Oliver Campeau and Scotland and Collins Mutchmor of Winnipeg, MB. Also step-sons Bruce Ledger of Vernon, BC and Steve and wife Lori of Kamloops, BC and their children Teralynn, Blake and Chanel Ledger of Kamloops, BC.

Our family would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff at 4 North in the Grace Hospital for their exemplary care and compassion. In addition, we would also like to thank the WRHA Home Care Team for their care and support.

Flowers gratefully declined. Donations, if desired, can be made to the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba.

A private celebration of Palma’s life will be held by the family in the summer.
