Obituary of MARLENE SOLMAN
MARLENE SOLMAN
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, and baba Marlene.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 65 years Vladimir; children Donald (Karen), Patricia (Mickey) and Christine (Mich); grandchildren Jennifer, Derek, Mark, Christopher, Nicole and Daniel; sisters Joan and Margie (John) as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Ulrich and Anna.
Mom was born in Winnipeg on May 20, 1937, the eldest child of Ulrich and Anna. She met Vlad through their church community and quickly fell in love, marrying in 1958.
Marlene was a person of faith and believed that we were put on this earth to serve a higher purpose. Marlene and Vlad dedicated themselves to their church community. She was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, serving several terms as President. She treasured her friendships made through the church and always looked forward to volunteering and attending social events. Most recently, she served as a tour guide and volunteer at the Bishop Velychkovsky Martyr's Shrine.
Mom's faith and early childhood instilled in her the importance of family. She was an active participant in her children and grandchildren's lives. She loved hosting and cherished every moment spent with family. Spending time with her six grandchildren was one of her greatest joys - she was so proud of their accomplishments and always looked forward to their visits and phone calls.
The family would like to thank Dr. Terry Babick, Marlene’s nephew, with whom she developed a special relationship with over the years and his daughter Dr. Andrea Babick. Their care and devotion to their aunt meant the world to her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bishop Velychkovsky Martyr's Shrine at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
A celebration of Marlene's life will take place at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Saturday, March 16th at 11am. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
