ROBERT ARNOLD MAZUREK

Robert Arnold Mazurek, 63, passed away peacefully February 22, 2024 with his family by his side, at HSC's ICU department.

He was predeceased by his baba Anne Mazurek, his mother Angela Mazurek, his beloved aunty Christine Mazurek, his uncle Arnold Mazurek and his cherished friend Peter Pestrack. Robert is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughters Cynthia (Lee), Vanessa (Tareq), his son Steven, his beloved sister Arlene (Darcy), the mother of his children Myra (Dave), his two beautiful grandchildren Jana and Yaseen, his nephew David, his aunty Elaine and his first cousin Dean (Jackie). He also is survived by some long-time friends Don and Sherene McDermott; Susan and Brian Agland. And lastly, by whom he always claimed to be the love of his life, Lilibeth, and who he was ever so sorry to let go. 

Robert was born and raised in Winnipeg where he attended all his school years and later joined the work force. Robert spent his whole career in the security business working for different security firms including Secureacor Armed guards and after that went on to work for the commissionaires. In the end, although his time at work was cut short, Robert loved and was proud that he had his special constable license, and looked forward to teaching his kids how to shoot at the gun range one day. 

That being said, Robert’s passion was definitely his family. His proudest moments were when his children and grandchildren were born; he was the proudest man ever. Robert cherished family and friends. He was the kindest man you could know and the most supportive even in his sickest times. He worried more about his sister's issues than his own and always tried to make his children's day just that much better whether it was his funny impersonations or just his consoling ways. 

Besides family, Robert was passionate about politics, gun laws and all related topics. He always had a story to tell and sure knew his stuff. He could keep that conversation going for hours. 

Robert also always loved music. In the early years, it was spending hours in his room with Don his best friend playing many hours of Elvis but many years after, Robert went on to learn the electric guitar and got more into rock. He made a few albums which he was ever so proud of. He was hoping to make another album but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. 

Robert fought liver disease and many other sicknesses for many years right until the very end. You couldn’t imagine the strength and will to live this man had and that is why it was the hardest decision to let him be at peace but peace is what he so much deserved. 

The family would like to thank everyone involved with Robert’s care. The staff at HSC were incredible - not only towards Robert but to us, the family. We spent many days and nights in his room, and the staff was always incredibly kind. Robert's sister, Arlene, would like to give a special thanks to Cindy, who was there many of Robert's last nights. Her knowledge and her honesty will always be appreciated. She was a true angel. We, as a family, would also like to thank all of his nurses: Bob, Chris, Daphne and everyone else who took part in Robert’s care. You are all amazing at what you do. Also, a big thank you to the doctor who continued to guide the family when we needed it most, Dr. Mendellson, and for the one doctor that Robert truly entrusted his whole life and care to, Dr. Wheeler. Dr. Wheeler, we can’t thank you enough for all the support you gave Robert, the endless conversations about what plan was next or where he was at. Robert had told each and every other person you are heading up his team and that you are the doctor who knows absolutely everything about him; he truly was so grateful to have you caring for him.  A special thank you to Cathy, his home care worker, and Cillia. 

The family would also like to thank Alice, a very special roommate Robert had while in the hospital. Thank you for keeping him company and having so many lovely conversations with him. He told us all about how pleasant his time with you was, and was very excited to have tea with you one day, once you were both feeling a little better. You will always be welcome to have tea with us, his family, when you visit Winnipeg. 

Lastly, the family would like to thank our friends who have all been there for us during this difficult time. Thank you all. 

A private service will be held for Robert at Cropo funeral chapel with burial to follow at the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic cemetery in Rossdale. Priest Yaroslav will be leading. Thank you to Cropo Funeral Chapel for making all the arrangements and making this so much easier on us, and thank you for your prayers and guidance, Father Yaroslav.
