In Loving Memory of Anna Helen Lobchuk

May 20, 1934 – April 2, 2024

Anna Helen Lobchuk, known as Annie, born on May 20, 1934, in Gruszow, Poland, to Rozalia and Kazimierz Piotrowicz, was a beacon of faith and love throughout her remarkable journey of 89 years. Her life, marked by resilience and unwavering Catholic faith, came to a peaceful close surrounded by the family she deeply cherished.

Anna's early years were filled with challenges that tested her spirit and faith. In 1937, she welcomed her brother Wladziu, whose untimely departure shortly after birth taught her the fragile nature of life. Her resilience was further tested in 1940 when her family was taken to Siberia, Russia, a harrowing experience that led to her separation from her father, never to be seen again. The following years saw Anna and her family move from Russia to Iran and then across continents to Africa, where they found refuge in Kenya and Masindi, Uganda, until 1948.

The journey of survival didn’t end there; in 1948, Anna and her family moved to Lion Paris, finding solace in a convent for 18 months. Their journey of hope and perseverance brought them to Liverpool, England, in 1949, and finally, they arrived in Canada on December 25, 1949, a day that marked a new beginning in their lives.

In Canada, Anna’s heart found its match in Kazimierz Lobchuk, whom she married on July 18, 1953. Their union, blessed with love and companionship, lasted over 70 years, a testament to their shared values and devotion. Together, they raised a family grounded in Catholic faith and love, including their children Hedy (Kenny d. 2022), Lucy (Mike d. 2019), Barbara, Tony (Michelle), and Stanley (Penny), who further blessed them with grandchildren Elizabeth (Ash), Jason (Nicole), Matthew (Theresa), Jessica (Kyle), Michelle (Andrew), Kristofer (Jessica), and Andrew (Erin), and great-grandchildren Colin, Robbie, Maggie, Jane, and Sammy.

Anna's life exemplified the strength of the human spirit and the profound impact of faith. Her journey from the adversity of her early years to the warmth of a family that spanned generations was a source of inspiration to all who knew her. She found her greatest joy in the laughter and love of her family and the quiet moments spent in prayer and reflection. Anna could be found by following the sound of her song or laughter to the kitchen where there was a never-ending selection of food prepared with love.

Anna's legacy is carried forward not just in the memories of her beloved family but in the values of love, resilience, and faith she instilled in them. Her life story, a journey across continents and through times of turmoil, reflects the power of hope and the unbreakable bond of family.

As we bid farewell to Anna Helen Lobchuk, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that, even in passing, continues to inspire love and faith. In her memory, let us hold our loved ones a little closer and remember the strength we draw from faith and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity close to Anna's heart, reflecting her lifelong commitment to faith and helping others.

A service for family and friends will be held to honor Anna’s life and legacy. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their prayers and support during this time.

Rosary will be said on Wednesday, April 10 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:00 a.m. both at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
