Obituary of JOYCE MARJORIE ADAIR (PARKINSON)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Joyce, on Friday, May 10 at her home in Tuxedo Villa, Winnipeg at the age of 95.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband Laurie, sister Lee, daughter-in-law Jan, and many other family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Wally, Bill (Lora), Carol, Bob, Tom (Kerrine), Holly (Peter); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  Ashley (Brendan; Lincoln, Aubrey), Amber (Marc), Amy, Sean (Gillian; Patrick, Reilly), Kyle (Michelle; Taryn, Hadley, Landyn), Adam (Dana; Austin), Evan (Kristin), Kristi (Chris), Tyler, Sarah (Aaron), Zane (Isabella), Cory (Heather), Matthew, Kaleigh (Brendan); her sister’s family in New Zealand: Bruce (Ava; Maree, Tim, Shannon), Robyn (Brett) and Brian as well as many other family and friends.

Mom was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan to Mabel and Walter Parkinson.  When she was 13, her mother died and soon after her dad moved her and her sister Lee from their farm in Lonerock, Saskatchewan to Winnipeg.  Mom was sad to leave the farm and her animals behind.

Mom met Dad through his sister and they married in 1947.  They lived in Lac du Bonnet for some years and then moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family.

Mom never had a driver’s license but that didn’t hold her back - she walked everywhere!  She’d take a bus from Charleswood to Polo Park, shop and then walk to The Bay and all over the downtown area.  She walked to visit people, to babysit, you name it.

Mom loved to knit, crochet and sew and was very talented.  She worked in several jobs but her last one was at West End Upholstery making curtains.

Grandma always had her cookie jar full; one specialty was her home-made Oreo cookies.  After visiting, the kids would always leave with a bag full of Grandma’s cookies.  She also made a Christmas Log for each of her kids every year.  Many people in the family have carried on this tradition for the next generation to enjoy.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and compassion during Mom’s time there.  In her final days they were truly amazing.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on June 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlands Cemetery, Treherne, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street Winnipeg in care of arrangements.
