Obituary of OLDEMIRO MANUEL FERREIRA DA SILVA
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Oldemiro Manuel Ferreira da Silva. Loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Oldemiro passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 11th, 2024 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 90 years.
He was predeceased by his father Jeronimo and mother Maria da Gloria and brother Daniel and sister Diamantina. Dad is survived by his wife of 65 years Maria Humberta Ferreira Goulart da Silva; sons Humberto (Linda) Alvaro (Adilia), Juvenal (Lucia); grandchildren Justin, Isabella and Sydney. Dad also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada, United States and Portugal.
Dad was born in Terra Cha, Terceira, Azores, Portugal on March 18th, 1934. As a young child, dad’s family moved to Sao Jorge. He always spoke fondly of his time there. He went to school there and enjoyed being near the water. He returned to Terceira as young adult where he met his wife, Maria. They were married on July 12th, 1959 and thus began their journey together.
Dad immigrated to Canada for a better life in October of 1967 to set up a home for his wife and three children who joined him in December of the same year. Dad worked many places throughout his life but the one he loved most was his last career, working at Wilson Auto Electric in the switch and drive department.
Dad loved nature. He would take his family on weekend drives through the countryside and explore. His favourite place was Dorothy Lake in the Whiteshell Park. We affectionately called it “Dad’s Cottage”. He also loved driving out west to the Rockies with close friends and family. Dad loved fishing. He and Mom would go out almost every weekend. He also enjoyed hunting. They were always together. He loved being at either Winnipeg Beach, Pine Falls or the Whiteshell with family and friends.
We would like to thank all who helped Dad and our family. Filomena Diniz (Niece), Matilda (Niece) and husband Germano Oliveira and many others too numerous to name. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Funeral Services starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue
