Obituary of PHYLLIS ROSE MCELHOES
Phyllis Rose McElhoes (nee Witwicki)
Surrounded by her family, after a long struggle with dementia, it is with great sadness we announce Phyllis’ passing at Actionmarguerite St. Joseph’s Personal Care Home on June 23, 2024 at the age of 91 years old.
Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Carol (Ben) and Leslie (David); five grandsons, Ryan (Nicole), Christopher, Timothy, Paul and Andrew; and her great granddaughter Charley (Chris’ daughter).
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Frank and Josephine Witwicki; her five siblings, John, Edward, Florence, Evelyn and Bernice.
Phyllis lived in her home on Portland Avenue in St. Vital for 60 years. She loved gardening, music, cooking and baking. Her sewing and knitting skills were amazing.
While living in St. Vital, one of her favourite places was St. Vital Park. She loved to ice skate there and did her walking laps around the duck pond. Once no longer able to drive, her son-in-law Ben, made sure she still got there and could do her walking that she loved so much.
At age 44, she started a career with the Manitoba Government Parks Branch as a payroll clerk and worked there until she retired in 1999.
After retirement, she was able to do some travelling and enjoy life.
Our family would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Joseph’s for the gentle, loving care they provided throughout our mom’s 6 year stay there. A special thank you to her nurse, Marjorie, for being with her at the very end.
Cremation has taken place. No formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba would be appreciated.
