LAWRENCE TARAS PREDINCHUK
FEBRUARY 7, 1938 – JULY 12, 2024
Lawrence Taras Predinchuk passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024. Lawrence was born on February 7, 1938 near Tufnell, Saskatchewan.
He was predeceased by his mother Marie (1982), father Steve (1987), nephew Garry (2006), sister-in-law Margaret Mary Gibson (2011) and brother Sylvester (2022). Lawrence leaves to mourn his brother Leo, nephew Rob (Lisa), nieces Jody Fitzgerald (Sean) and Kim (Mike) Charette. Also, two grandnieces Sarah (Zack) and Carlie and four grandnephews Aaron, Kyle (Esmeralda), Luke (Mandela) and Justin. As well as, his great-grandniece Avah.
Lawrence (Laurie) grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from UBC in 1966 with a BSc degree. He was a leading player on the UBC basketball team. He will be remembered as a fine painter, a proficient chess player and an avid reader. He was a gifted man with an inquiring mind, resilient spirit and gentle nature. The family cottage at Lester Beach and walking in the Belair Forest were two of his favourite things.
Lawrence wished to express his deepest thanks to his very special Cheryl Taylor for her loving kindness and gracious help. A special thanks to his cousin Grace Hicks, for her kindness and support. Also, thanks to a good friend Francine Chisholm of Nanaimo, BC for their many long distance conversations.
A heartfelt thank-you to Dr. W. Lebedin for his excellent care and counsel over the years.
A Funeral Service celebrating Lawrence’s life will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Fr. Dominic Yuen officiating.
Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laurie’s memory to a charity of your choice.
