As a young girl 16 year old girl from Fisher Branch one of the requirements for my high school’s business class was to attend a 6 week work experience in an office environment. Verna being my cousin who worked at CN Rail in the personnel department spoke with her boss and I was accepted to do my 6 week term at CN in the signals department. Verna administered my first speed typing test before I started working. I was so nervous but knowing Verna was there gave me confidence. She took me around and introduced me to so many people. It was both exciting & intimidating at the same time.
One very special memory I have was when Verna took me to my first night club in Winnipeg. The entertainer was singing “Lady” by Kenny Rogers and he came down from the stage and sang to the two of us. I felt so special. That evening was one that I’ll never forget.
Verna always did everything with such class. Her dinner parties were memorable. I remember sitting in her quaint little dining room with an immaculately set table with her Old Country Rose China, glistening cutlery and sparkling glassware listening to gentle background dinner music. Her meals were lovingly prepared with her amazing culinary skills. Entertaining was one of the things she truly enjoyed.
Verna I’m so glad you are once again wrapped in the loving arms of Uncle Fred & Aunty Mary. May you rest peacefully knowing you left this troublesome world with dignity and grace. Until we meet again Verna. Give mom and dad a big hug from me. ❤️❤️
