I would like to extend sincere condolences to Walter's family. I have fond memories of working with Walter. I crossed paths with Walter as a young linesman in the Jr. B hockey league. He was an intimidating, gruff individual. Fast forward a few years, as a university student, I was hired by Wpg. Hydro and assigned to the Street Lighting Div. Imagine my surprise when I got in the van to work on Walter's crew. It was a great experience as he was an excellent foreman. He was intensely proud of the North End, God's country as he called it. When we repaired a cable fault, we needed to be extra diligent to ensure the sod and the earth we dug up was replaced perfectly to appear as if nothing had been disturbed. Walter rewarded our efforts on Friday afternoon with a stop at one of his favourite neighbourhood establishments.before returning to the shop to end the week. Rest in peace, Walter. You are a good man.
