IRENE HOLOWATY

Obituary of IRENE MARY HOLOWATY

In Loving Memory of

Irene Holowaty

May 28, 1951 – September 8, 2024

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our sister, Irene Holowaty, on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the age of 73 years.

Irene was born on May 28, 1951 to parents Paul and Stella Holowaty.

She attended school in Transcona and graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a major in French. Irene was fluent in three languages- Ukrainian, English, and French.

After graduating from university, Irene began her career with Air Canada, and remained there until her retirement in 2001.  She was a finance specialist and a very dedicated employee who did not miss a single day of work during her tenure.  Irene’s employment with Air Canada offered her the opportunity to see the world.  She travelled to Europe, Asia, Africa and to many warm destinations in the Caribbean. One of her greatest joys was travelling to Texas to be with Dad and Mom; she spent several winters with them in Texas.

Irene was always known in our family for her selflessness and compassion for others.  She devotedly cared for our aging parents, always putting their needs first and sparing no expense, in order to maintain their comfort and dignity.

Irene was an excellent cook who prepared many meals for family and friends, throughout the year and every holiday season.   She took great pride in hosting Christmas Eve with a traditional Ukrainian dinner.  Her efforts brought her joy, knowing that everyone would be gathering together to enjoy each other’s company.

Irene was an active member of St Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council as recording secretary.

Irene was predeceased by her parents Paul and Stella Holowaty (Dutchak) and stepmother Mary (Makowski).

Left to cherish her memory are brothers Jerry, Ed (Nancy) and numerous family and friends in Canada and Ukraine.

The family would like to thank Dr. Spencer and the staff on E4 at the St Boniface hospital for their care and compassion during Irene’s illness.

We would also like to thank Fr. Darren Kawiuk for his spiritual guidance and support to our family.

Irene will be greatly missed by all of us who loved her dearly.

Vichnaya Pam’yat/Memory Eternal.
