Obituary of ELSIE AGNUS SHAW
Elsie Shaw
July 31, 1935 - October 23, 2024
On the 23rd of October, Elsie Agnus Shaw passed away peacefully at the age of 89, with the love of family surrounding her.
Mom will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by her daughters Patricia, Karen (Murray), cherished grandchildren Aaron (Kaitlyn), Megan and Stewart. Brother Ernie (Tammy) and dear sister Joyce (Trevor). Sister-in-laws Mary Ann, Joan, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Peter, son-in-law Curtis, brother Bernie, brother-in-law’s Don, Gord, Gary, and sister-in-law Sherrie, Nephew Gary and Niece Susan. Parents John & Caroline Yaremchuk, and mother-in-law Mary Ciszewski.
Mom grew up in West St. Paul, she exceled academically and was a star athlete in school. At the age of 16, mom overcame polio. Her love of sports never waned, she was an avid fan of the Bombers, Blue Jays, Jets (1 & 2), and golf. She met her soul mate Peter at a dance in Petersfield and they were married in 1957 for 58 years. Together they built their family home in St. Andrew's and raised their girls.
Our mom was always busy, working with Bernie at Young's Memorials, involved & supporting us in music, figure skating, baseball and whatever else we tried our hand at, all while maintaining our beautiful family home. Mom was instrumental in organizing and running St. Andrew's Figure Skating Club. She volunteered countless hours to St. Andrew's Community Club, CWL, quilting, Catechism classes at St. Theresa's Parish, and the Roman Catholic service held at Middlechurch PCH.
Mom cherished her grandchildren and was always available to babysit, drive, and cheer on at all activities. Mom was their #1 fan alongside their other #1 fan, our dad.
Mom developed Scleroderma & Raynaud’s Phenomenon in her 60's, but this never slowed her down, nor did she ever complain. Even in the last few months, mom never gave up.
Sincere gratitude to both St. Norbert and Middlechurch PCH, for their compassion and care for our mom. Also, to mom's medical teams through the years. And a very special thank you to Mom's “side kick” Mike, always a gentleman.
Mom was a kind gentle lady with a sweet stubborn streak.
Mom...could you come back and stay a while? I want to hear your voice and see your smile. I want to hold you tight, and never let you go, and tell you how much I love you so.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main St., West St. Paul.
Flowers are graciously declined. If you wish, please make a donation to a charity dear to you.
